Mummified

The Narrative

The systematic erasure of the feminine. This work is a radical, visual indictment against the centuries-old practice of stripping women of their identity, visibility, and freedom.

Hair - traditionally a symbol of female power, pride, and individuality - is here misappropriated and turned into the fetters of a merciless concealment. The head and eyes are blinded, squeezed into the corset of patriarchal and societal dogmas. Mummified in the pale light of isolation, the woman appears degraded to a mere sculpture. Yet, the uncovered mouth remains free as a vulnerable but powerful sign of resistance. A visual manifesto showing that you can veil a woman's face and block her eyes, but you can never suffocate the untamed life and truth beneath the bandages.

"By transforming a traditional symbol of vital strength into the literal instruments of captivity, the artist masterfully exposes the violence of forced anonymity, positioning a solitary exposed mouth as a fierce, enduring monument of visceral truth and unyielding vocal defiance."
